British International School, Phuket
About BIS Phuket
Phuket's British day and boarding school since 1996
British International School, Phuket was founded on the vision of two Thai educators, Mr Prasit Ourairat and Dr Arthit Ourairat, to create a high quality international day and boarding school on Phuket. It opened in 1996 with 59 students as the founding Dulwich International College, was officially opened by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn in 2002 and took its current name in 2005. Today over 1,100 students aged 2 to 18, from more than 60 nationalities, learn on a 44-acre campus in Koh Kaew, taught by over 100 qualified teachers and coaches from more than 15 nationalities. The Headmaster is Simon Meredith, and the school's mission is to Inspire Learning, Nurture Wellbeing and Ignite Passion.
Early Years and Primary
Early Years follows the Early Years Foundation Stage in two settings: Little Ducks for two- to three-year-olds, and Nursery and Reception for three- to five-year-olds, with indoor and outdoor spaces children move between freely. By the end of Early Years children have lessons in PE, swimming, music, library and Thai (for Thai speakers). Primary (ages 5 to 11) follows the National Curriculum of England in classroom pods of two year groups around a shared area, with specialists teaching Thai, Mandarin, Spanish, PE and performing arts. The Primary day runs from 7:50 am to 2:35 pm, and lunch and snacks are included.
Secondary: IGCSE, then the IB Diploma or BTEC
Years 7 to 9 follow Key Stage 3 of the National Curriculum of England. Every Key Stage 3 student learns an instrument in lessons, with instruments provided, and takes an annual LAMDA exam in voice and spoken English. Years 10 and 11 take IGCSEs. In Years 12 and 13 students take the full IB Diploma, individual IB courses, or a BTEC International Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport or Business. All students graduate with the BISP High School Diploma, accredited by CIS, NEASC and the Thai Ministry of Education. Support includes an Intensive English Programme, English as an Additional Language, a Learning Support department and two school counsellors.

How admission works at BISP
BISP welcomes students of every nationality who can benefit from an English-language education. Admissions review recent school reports and a reference from the current school. Non-native English speakers take an English test: reading, writing and an interview in Primary, and an entrance test at school or online for Years 7 to 9. Years 10 and 11 need near-native English. For the full IB Diploma, students need at least five IGCSE grades at A* to C (four for IB courses or BTEC). A capable student who needs more English may receive an offer on condition of an intensive English course. The admissions office (admissions@bisphuket.ac.th, +66 76 335 555) is open Monday to Friday 8 am to 5 pm and Saturday 8 am to 12 pm, and arranges tours.
