Rugby School Thailand named British International School of the Year: week in international schools (12 – 17 October 2026)

This round-up gathers the most useful international-school news for families in Bangkok and on the Eastern Seaboard, covering Monday 12 to Saturday 17 October 2026.
It was a week of recognition on the Eastern Seaboard, where Rugby School Thailand received one of the most respected awards in British independent education. In Bangkok, Wycombe Abbey International School Bangkok launched its first scholarship round, Shrewsbury International School Bangkok City Campus welcomed the first Year 1 class on its Chinese–English bilingual pathway, and a new market forecast offered a frank look at how fees and competition between schools are changing.
Rugby School Thailand: British International School of the Year 2026
On Wednesday evening in London, Rugby School Thailand was named joint British International School of the Year at the Independent Schools of the Year 2026 awards, sharing the title with The British School of Bahrain. The awards, run by Independent School Parent magazine, drew more than 1,000 nominations across 25 categories, with winners chosen by an independent judging panel.
Rugby School Thailand had been shortlisted in the category several times before, so this year’s win is a notable milestone for the Chonburi school as it approaches its tenth anniversary. For families on the Eastern Seaboard, it is a clear signal that a British boarding and day school of international standing sits on their doorstep.
Wycombe Abbey International School Bangkok launches Dove Scholarships
On Thursday, Wycombe Abbey International School Bangkok announced its Dove Scholarship Awards for 2027–2028 entry. The school, which opened in August 2026 and teaches a British curriculum from Nursery to Year 10 with boarding from Year 7, is offering tuition fee reductions of 25% to 100% for exceptional pupils.
Scholarships are available in four categories:
- Academic Scholarships (Years 7–10)
- Sixth Form Scholarships (Year 12)
- Sports Scholarships (Years 3–12)
- Music and Arts Scholarships (Years 3–12)
Pupils may apply in up to two categories, and awards include mentoring as well as fee reductions. Applications close on 16 November 2026, and the school is holding an Information Session and Open Day on Saturday 14 November, 09:00–11:00. Families who would like support with an application or with booking a place at the session are welcome to contact British Learning Centre.
International Pioneers School expands to Key Stage 3
In west Bangkok, International Pioneers School (IPS) unveiled a new teaching building at its Bang Khae campus, with science laboratories, a library, an art room and a sports field. Years 7 and 8 open this year, extending the school into Key Stage 3. IPS will hold an open house on Saturday 31 October, 09:00–12:00, for K1 to Year 9, and families who attend are offered 10% off 2026–27 registration fees (source).
Shrewsbury City Campus: first Year 1 class on the Hanqing Bilingual Pathway
On Friday, Shrewsbury International School Bangkok City Campus marked a milestone for its Hanqing Bilingual Pathway (HQP), which teaches through both Chinese and English. A year after the pathway began, its founding pupils have moved up into its first Year 1 class, taking HQP into the Primary School and Key Stage 1. The school notes that the new cohort includes families from Thailand alongside children with connections to the United States, France, the United Kingdom, China and elsewhere.
For families weighing a bilingual education against a fully English-medium British school, it is a welcome addition to the options available in central Bangkok.
Market view: more schools, more competition, higher fees
The most thought-provoking item of the week was a new forecast from Kasikorn Research Center, reported by The Bangkok Insight and ThaiPublica. It found that the number of international schools in Thailand grew by about 5.3% in 2026, while pupil numbers grew by only about 3.8%. Average enrolment per school is expected to fall from about 312 in 2025 to around 304 in 2027.
Bangkok tuition fees rose by about 5% for 2026/27, up from about 3% the year before, and sector revenue is forecast at about 141 billion baht in 2027, driven mainly by fee rises. Bangkok is home to more than 45% of the country’s international schools. The report expects competition for pupils to intensify in 2027, with schools increasingly differentiating on academic quality.
For families, this is broadly good news on choice, but it also means more to compare and higher costs to weigh. Looking closely at results, class sizes, pastoral care and the true annual cost — not only the headline fee — has rarely been more worthwhile.

Why it matters for BLC families
With more schools competing for each pupil and fees rising by around 5% a year, choosing a school is a bigger decision than ever. British Learning Centre’s free school-placement support can help you build a realistic shortlist, compare new and established schools side by side, and understand the full cost before you commit.
Scholarship rounds such as Wycombe Abbey’s reward early preparation. Our UK-curriculum tuition — in Pattaya, at Lasalle’s Avenue in Bangkok, and online — supports entrance assessments, scholarship preparation and the move from primary to secondary. Every pupil can start with a free assessment in English and maths, with a written report.
Closing
A week of new beginnings in Bangkok, well-deserved recognition for Rugby School Thailand on the Eastern Seaboard, and a timely reminder from the market that families have real choice — and good reason to choose carefully. If you would like help planning visits, preparing for a scholarship or finding the right school, British Learning Centre is glad to help.
